Tuesday, War Memorials

Hello Again,
Tuesday was the day spent visiting the various WWI memorials that commemorate the Battle of the Somme in 1916. These events are still very much present into the memories because so many people were affected either by fighting or by suffering from the fighting. There are still today remains and different items that are found in the field when farmers plow their fields, including unexploded artillery shells. For the first time I went to the Australian Memorial that was very impressive (picture 1).
I also visited for the first time the Somme Trench Museum (http://www.warmuseums.nl/gal/144gal.htm). It is all built underground in galleries destined to protect civilians in WWII (picture 2). Phil
